50 YEARS OF RODEO
A SUMMER TRADITION
Capturing 50 Years of Grit, Glory, and Community: The Isanti Firefighters Rodeo
There is a unique kind of magic that settles over the arena every July. It’s the smell of dust and popcorn, the collective breath held before a gate swings open, and the unmistakable roar of a crowd that has been keeping a legacy alive for half a century. This year, the Isanti Firefighters Rodeo celebrates a spectacular 50-year tradition—five decades of bringing the heart-pounding thrill of the arena right to our backyard.
What makes this rodeo truly remarkable isn't just the incredible athleticism in the dirt; it’s the unwavering community support. Year after year, the crowds grow larger, the energy becomes more electric, and the following expands. It is a tradition woven deeply into the fabric of Isanti, powered by the dedication of our local firefighters and the fans who show up to cheer them on.
For the last 11 years, I have had the absolute privilege of viewing this incredible event through my lens.
A Lens on the Legacy
Documenting this rodeo has been one of the greatest joys of my creative life. I feel incredibly blessed to continue serving as the official Isanti Rodeo Photographer, freezing those split-second moments of human emotion, raw determination, and western tradition.
That journey behind the camera also opened the door for me to become a journalistic photographer for the Isanti-Chisago County Star. Covering the rodeo for the newspaper has been an honor in itself, but it has also brought some incredible professional milestones. Thanks to the action and stories captured in this very arena, I have been able to add 11 first-place awards from the Minnesota Newspaper Association to my wall—each one a testament to the power, grit, and beauty of rodeo photography.
The riders bring the courage, the firefighters build the arena, and the community provides the soul. Here’s to celebrating 50 unbelievable years, and to the many chapters yet to be written.
Let’s keep the tradition alive!
